Mizoram University is a central university established by an Act of Parliament in 2000. The university is located in Aizwal, Mizoram. The university is located in the sprawling campus of about 978 acres. Over the years, it has grown an infrastructure to facilitate students in their studies and promoted support services, academic programs. The university has also secured the NAAC A+ grade. It is further recognised for offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. It has more than 40 affiliated colleges and one constituent college. Q.1 What’s the difference between JRF and SRF at MZU?

Ans. JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) is for the initial period of the research scholar’s tenure; after fulfilling certain progress and evaluation, the scholar is upgraded to SRF (Senior Research Fellowship) with a higher stipend.

Q.2 Is there an HRA (House Rent Allowance) component included in MZU fellowships?

Ans. Yes, many fellowships include HRA (~9%) of the fellowship amount for eligible candidates.

Q.3 Do Non-NET PhD students also get a stipend/fellowship at Mizoram University?

Ans. Yes, there is a UGC fellowship for Non-NET PhD students, though the amount is lower (for instance, ₹8,000/month).

Q.4 Are fellowship benefits the same across Science & Engineering vs Humanities & Social Sciences?

 Ans. No, for many schemes, the rates of contingency, sometimes stipend, differ between Science/Engineering vs Humanities/Social Sciences.

Q.5 Can students outside Mizoram apply for the fellowships or programs at MZU?

Ans.  Yes, many fellowships are national schemes (ST/SC/OBC/PWD/minorities, etc.), so eligibility is based on category and rules, not strictly domicile. However, some state-level scholarships may have domicile requirements.
